Who can you contact throughout the state for staff development, technical assistance, research materials, or answers to your questions? You have several options.

  • If you are in one of the "Big Five" school districts (Buffalo, New York City, Rochester, Syracuse, or Yonkers) the district's office of bilingual education can be your first source.

  • The BETACs provide technical assistance and staff development programs by phone and on site to educators regionally.

  • Statewide, the two professional organizations for educators of LEP students offer conferences and written materials as on-going support. New York State Association for Bilingual Education (NYSABE) and New York State Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (NYS TESOL).

  • Other related internet sites are the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) and the National Clearinghouse for Bilingual Education (NCBE), which offer valuable research and resources to educators of LEP students.
